Meet Terry Burn: Northwoods Credit Union’s New CEO

Northwoods Credit Union is entering an exciting new chapter as we welcome Terry Burn as our next President/CEO in 2025.

While change can bring questions, this transition is one we celebrate — because it ensures our values, vision, and momentum remain strong.

Invisible
A Familiar Face with Deep Roots

Terry isn’t new to Northwoods or to our community. In fact, he’s been helping guide our credit union forward for years and is already a well-respected leader within our organization.

  • Born in Duluth, MN

  • Resident of Moose Lake for the past 33 years

  • Family-focused: Married to wife Kara for 32 years; proud dad to Adrienne, Aaron, and Andrew

  • Community-minded: Involved in coaching youth hockey, trivia contests, and various youth mentorship programs

Terry brings a personal warmth and community-centered mindset that reflects exactly what Northwoods stands for.

A Career Built on “People Helping People”

Terry began his financial services career in Wisconsin but soon realized he wanted a role where he could truly help people. That path led him to the credit union movement — and he’s never looked back.

  • B.S. Degree in Managerial Accounting and Business Administration from UW-Stevens Point

  • Started in 1991 as a Loan Officer at Lake State Credit Union

  • Spent 25 years there, eventually becoming Senior Vice President – Chief Lending Officer

  • Joined Northwoods Credit Union in 2016, where he has served in executive leadership

  • Brings over 30 years of credit union experience

Throughout his career, Terry has led with empathy, innovation, and a strong belief in the credit union difference.

Endorsed by Leadership

Outgoing CEO Doug Wolf shares his confidence in Terry’s ability to lead:

“The Board has made an excellent choice in naming Terry Burn to succeed me. Terry is the right person to lead the credit union forward and maintain our tradition of continual improvement, all while protecting Northwoods’ values. With Terry at the helm, the future for Northwoods is bright and limitless.”

Board Chair Jeff Kletscher echoes that endorsement on behalf of the Board of Directors:

“Terry exemplifies Northwoods Credit Union’s organizational culture. His desire to keep Northwoods a growing, progressive, and community-oriented institution aligns well with the Board’s goals. We are confident that under Terry’s leadership, Northwoods will enjoy continued success and deliver outstanding service to our members.”

Terry’s Vision for Northwoods

As Terry steps into the CEO role, his vision is simple: keep Northwoods Credit Union progressive, people-first, and deeply connected to our communities.

Terry plans to:

  • Continue building on Northwoods’ strong SPICE values: Servant Mentality, Progressive Thinking, Integrity, Compassion, and Empathy

  • Maintain and grow our community giving and local partnerships

  • Expand services that help members achieve financial wellness — without sacrificing personal service

  • Keep Northwoods modern, secure, and forward-thinking for years to come while offering the same competitive, local rates you expect

Leadership with Purpose

“My goal as CEO is to establish Northwoods as a model for how credit unions serve rural communities. Technology is important — and we’ll continue to innovate — but it’s our human connections that truly set us apart.”
