Northwoods Credit Union is coming to Hinckley

Northwoods Credit Union is a member-owned financial cooperative that has provided banking, lending, and financial services to people in our local communities since 1936. Instead of serving shareholders, we serve our members. That means our focus is on providing fair rates, helpful service, and financial guidance.

A credit union is similar to a bank in the services it offers—checking accounts, savings accounts, loans, and online banking, but it is owned by its members. Because credit unions are not-for-profit organizations, earnings are returned to members through competitive loan rates, lower fees, and better, personal service. 

The biggest difference is ownership. Banks are owned by shareholders, while credit unions are owned by their members. Credit unions focus on helping members improve their financial well-being rather than generating profits for outside investors. 

Yes. Deposits at Northwoods Credit Union are federally insured by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) up to $250,000 per account holder, similar to FDIC insurance at banks.
